THE CONDENSED
MIKADO March
28-April 15,
2007
created
by Scott Kenison and David Simmons
directed by Scott Kenison with music direction by Alvin Smithson
at the Atlas Performing Arts Center
an event of the National
Cherry Blossom Festival
This delightful production, created especially
for the National Cherry Blossom Festival, is
a one-hour version of the entire story of Gilbert
and Sullivan's most popular opera, The Mikado.
Kimonos, cherry blossoms, mistaken identity,
unrequited love, and a lot of silliness make
this show a great crowd-pleaser. It is performed
with nine singers and a small orchestral band.

THE MERRY WIDOW
April
12-22, 2007
directed
by Hal Simons with music direction by N. Thomas
Pedersen
at the Atlas Performing Arts Center
A young wealthy widow's bank account is keeping her small country's treasury afloat. But if she marries and moves her money to another country, disaster will strike. Diplomacy, love, and money make for many complications, much merriment--and great can-cans. You'll love "The Merry Widow Waltz." The Merry Widow premiered in Vienna in 1905, had its Broadway debut at the New Amersterdam Theatre on October 21, 1907, and became a runaway hit. It was the beginning of a new wave of modern operettas. Celebrate The Widow's U.S. centenary with the Washington Savoyards!
