THE WASHINGTON SAVOYARDS
HELPS KIDS LEARN HOW TO GET ON STAGE

Opera/Broadway Boot Camp

October 20 to November 21

The Washington Savoyards launches a new educational outreach program directed toward youth and young adults, aged 14-21. The Emerging Art and Artists program and its Opera/Broadway Boot Camp is designed to introduce Washington area students and young adults, particularly those in underserved communities where arts involvement is minimal, to light opera and musical theatre. The program is created to encourage young and aspiring artists to pursue careers in the performing arts. Participants are chosen by audition.

Students attend the five-week program free of charge. Washington Savoyards’ Artistic Director Tom Pedersen and a talented team of instructors lead classes in voice, audition preparation, dance, and diction and dialogue training. At the conclusion of the program, students present a public showcase at the Atlas Performing Arts Center.

The Emerging Art and Artists program fulfills the Savoyards’ mission to demystify opera and musical theatre so that they can be accessible art forms to all audiences.

The Washington Savoyards will also provide performance opportunities outside of the program as select students will be chosen to perform in future Washington Savoyards productions.

“Expanding our involvement in the community has always been a top priority,” states
Artistic Director Tom Pedersen. The Washington Savoyards hopes to conduct Opera/Broadway Boot Camps on a regular basis in the future.

This program is underwritten by The Stafford Foundation.
